Onderuitgezakt film kijken onder de eeuwenoude spitsbogen van het Hemelryck bij de cultureel ecologische broedplaats Metaal Kathedraal. Rondom een bepaald thema selecteert Hoogt on Tour elke 1e zondag van de maand een prachtige film. Metaal Kathedraal verzorgt een verrassend en bijpassend randprogramma.
3 november – CineMekka x ENFF – The Winter Garden’s Tale
Hoogt on Tour vertoont in samenwerking met Metaal Kathedraal en het Eastern Neighbours Film Festival de Oekraïense documentaire The Winter Garden’s Tale. Met Engelse ondertitels. Regisseur Simon Mozghovyi zal aanwezig zijn bij de voorstelling en na afloop van de film leidt Rada Sesic, Artistiek Directeur van het ENFF, een Q&A met hem.
Over de film
“The super-task is to show how palms and ficuses feel everything that happens with them and in general, what is the most important: people or plants. It is tragicomic film about life: not easy, but still life, with a bit of self-irony and allegory to routine”.
De Oekraïense regisseur Simon Mozgovyi heeft seizoenen lang minutieus de tuin van The Floriculture Pavilion gefilmd. Het paviljoen, één van de laatste Sovjet-symbolen, dreigt op te houden met bestaan. De tuin wordt bedreigd wanneer de oude dame die de tuin onderhoudt, Valentyna Voronina, wordt gedwongen om met pensioen te gaan. Maar hiermee wil ze niet akkoord gaan. Ze heeft haar hele leven aan de tuin gewijd en is bang dat de planten zonder haar dood zullen gaan. Tegelijkertijd vindt een mysterieuze groep radiesthesisten een kanaal met positieve energie recht voor de entree van het paviljoen… The Winter Garden’s Tale is een levendige getuigenis van een veranderlijke tijd en de moeite van de mens om mee te gaan in deze veranderingen.

Het Eastern Neighbours Film Festival eert en viert de meest getalenteerde filmmakers en bijzondere films uit Oost- en Zuidoost Europa. Het festival is plek waar West en Oost elkaar ontmoeten, en verschillende genres samenkomen. Voor het ENFF 2019, dat plaatsvindt van 6-10 november in Filmhuis Den Haag, aanvangt, toert het festival langs verschillende bioscopen door heel Nederland. Tijdens deze ON TOUR sessies vertoont ENFF een aantal bijzondere films. De spraakmakers van vorig jaar, maar ook premières.
Hoogt on Tour
Na het vertrek van Filmtheater ’t Hoogt uit de Utrechtse binnenstad vertoont Hoogt on Tour films op diverse locaties in de stad. Voor specifieke doelgroepen selecteert en programmeert Hoogt on Tour unieke films, documentaires en klassiekers. Dit doen we onder andere bij Molen de Ster, Metaal Kathedraal, De Nijverheid in het Werkspoorkwartier en de Parel van Zuilen.

CineMekka – film and contemplation
Every first Sunday of the month Hoogt on Tour is screening a film at Metaal Kathedraal, a cultural and ecological breeding ground in Utrecht.
November 3rd – CineMekka X ENFF – The Winter Garden’s Tale
Hoogt on Tour and Metaal Kathedraal present, in collaboration with the Eastern Neighbours Film Festival, the Ukrainian documentary The Winter Garden’s Tale. With English subtitles. Director Simon Mozghovyi will be attending the screening and Rada Sesic, artistic director at ENFF will, lead a Q&A with him after the screening.
About the film
“The super-task is to show how palms and ficuses feel everything that happens with them and in general, what is the most important: people or plants. It is tragicomic film about life: not easy, but still life, with a bit of self-irony and allegory to routine”, points out Ukrainian director who meticulously filmed this exquisite place throughout the seasons.
The Floriculture Pavilion, one of the last soviet symbols, is about to end its existence. Its fate is decided when the elderly employee Valentyna Voronina is asked to retire. But Voronina does not agree with that. She thinks that all the plants will die without her, after investing her whole life into it. Meanwhile, a group of mysterious radioesthesists find a channel of positive energy right in front of the entrance of pavilion… The Winter Garden’s Tale is a vivid testimony of changing epochs process and human unwillingness to change.
